The letter came, and the prince received his approval, thrilled at the opportunity he began the guard’s formal training. His time with the princess became less often sometimes he didn’t see her at all. The king had become aware of their growing connection and requested the prince’s time remain focused on the guard.

One evening the young prince had found a moment to speak to the king alone.

“Would you tell me how the princess became the protector? I asked her when I

first arrived and she said it must wait until I was approved but I began training and never got around to ask her again. Actually, I haven’t seen her much at all lately.” The prince’s face showed his disappointment in their lack of time together.

“If you would like to know, you can ask her. I am sure she would prefer to tell you and would also like to reconnect.” The king had grown fond of the young prince, writing his parents often on his progress throughout his training.

The young prince smiled, telling the king he would do just that. He hurried from the room to find the princess. He asked several guards who pointed him to a barn near the castle, one that the prince had never been into.

It was off limits and was the princess’s personal barn. Approaching the doors, he realized the sheer size of the barn.

Clearing his throat, he called out for her, hearing some shuffling around in the barn before she answered.

“Just a moment, I will meet you outside.” More shuffling noise and then a side door opened and slammed. “Hello, what brings you here?”

The prince could tell she was less amused with him being there but hoped clearing up a few things would get them back on track.
